Obama, McCain, and George W: the philosophical connection

Hello, gentle blog reader,

I recently read that Barack Obama’s a fan of Reinhold Niebuhr.  Clueless as to who he is, I did a little research and discovered that John Mcain had “in his volume, “Hard Call,” celebrated Niebuhr as a paragon of clarity about the costs of a “good” war”:

It’s great that we’re about to have an intellectual in the White House again.  I, for one, don’t fully comprehend the philosophical underpinnings (especially the Aristotelian bits) behind Niebuhr’s Christian Realism, but I appreciate the Serenity Prayer, which is often ascribed to him:

”God, give us grace to accept with serenity the things that cannot be changed, courage to change the things that should be changed, and the wisdom to distinguish the one from the other.”

(And I bet, George W. Bush, who has battled with alcoholism, does too.)

Take the presidential matchomatic test!

Warning to Palin: We put down vicious pit bulls in the Lower 48

Was anyone else appalled by Palin’s speech last night? I’m still reeling from last night’s “pit bull with lipstick” speech by the Republican VP candidate.   She said that she supports McCain’s desire to send US troops to fight the Russians in Georgia–just what we need, WWIII!  (The US can’t even afford its current military efforts, much less taking on Russia.)

McCain and Palin are just too gun and war crazy–I want peace and prosperity.  The US needs to stop wasting time, money, and lives on securing foreign oil under the guise of bringing democracy to countries that have never wanted it!

“This election is not about issues”–McCain’s campaign mgr

What’s the election about then?

In an email from Howard Dean:

Yesterday, John McCain’s campaign manager told the Washington Post, “This election is not about issues.”

It’s clear why the McCain campaign doesn’t want to focus on the issues — their platform is the most extreme we’ve ever seen from the Republican Party.

The Republican platform opposes embryonic stem cell research. It denies a woman’s right to choose, even in cases of rape, incest, or to save the life of the mother. It fails to mention equal pay for women. And it barely acknowledges the $10 billion a month we are currently spending in Iraq.

Rather than run on the issues, McCain and the Republicans are running from them.

Old World Values: Should they be a factor in the election?

A friend recently sent me an article referring to Obama’s ancestral heritage and how voters should consider it at the polls.

Here’s my response:

Just like the rest of us, Obama can do nothing about who his ancestors were and what they did.  Unlike Europe and other areas, where one’s pedigree is a big deal, the US prides itself on being a meritocracy–it’s what YOU do, not what your ancestors did, that counts. Leave issues of heritage to the Old World.

More importantly, McCain has clearly demonstrated he lacks decision-making skills as his choice of VP indicates. Is Palin really the best Republican for the job? The manner in which McCain made his choice shows total irresponsibility too. McCain has had months upon months to find a great running mate. Talking with Palin by phone for 15 minutes and meeting with them for 30 minutes before selecting her hardly qualifies as carefully screening the next possible VP of the US–heck, McDonald’s s spends more time with its applicants for burger flipping jobs!  The next president of the US has to be good decision-maker, which Obama has demonstrated he is, and by virtue of the meritocracy we live in, he deserves the presidency far more than McCain.

Glad we’re in the New World for this one–

The O-man, Barack Hussein Obama, is an eloquently tailored empty suit.
No resume, no accomplishments, no experience, no original ideas, no
understanding of how the economy works, no understanding of how the
world works, nothing but abstract empty rhetoric devoid of real
substance.

He has no real identity. He is half-white, which he rejects. The rest
of him is mostly Arab, which he hides but is disclosed by his
non-African Arabic surname and his Arabic first and middle names as a
way to triply proclaim his Arabic parentage to people in Kenya . Only a
small part of him is African Black from his Luo grandmother, which he
pretends he is exclusively.

What he isn’t,  not a genetic drop of, is ‘African-American,’ the
descendant of enslaved Africans brought to America chained in slave
ships. He hasn’t a single ancestor who was a slave. Instead, his Arab
ancestors were slave owners. Slave-trading was the main Arab business
in East Africa for centuries until the British ended it.

Let that sink in: Obama is not the descendant of slaves, he is the
descendant of  slave owners. Thus he makes the perfect Liberal Messiah.

It’s something Hillary doesn’t understand – how some complete neophyte
came out of the blue and stole the Dem nomination from her. Obamamania
is beyond politics and reason . It is a true religious cult, whose
adherents reject Christianity yet still believe in Original Sin,
transferring it from the evil of being human to the evil of being
white.

Thus Obama has become the white liberals’ Christ, offering
absolution from the Sin of Being White. There is no reason or logic
behind it, no faults or flaws of his can diminish it, no
arguments Hillary could make of any kind can be effective against it.
The absurdity of Hypocrisy Clothed In Human Flesh being their Savior is
all the more cause for liberals to worship him: Credo quia absurdum, I
believe it because it is absurd.

Thank heavens that the voting majority of Americans remain
Christian and are in no desperate need of a phony savior.

His candidacy is ridiculous and should not be taken seriously by any
thinking American.

McCain and Katrina

And, let’s not forget McCain, on two separate occasions, voted AGAINST legislation that would have created a commission to study why the human disaster associated with Katrina happened and ways to prevent such a disaster from occurring again:

McCain and Palin: A future on SNL?

Regardless of one’s political persuasion, don’t McCain and Palin look, act, and sound like they’re performing on Saturday Night Live?–They manage to crack me up everytime I see them.

The GOP is Running Scared

Hello everyone–it’s another great day here during this wonderful Labor Day weekend!

I’m sure you’ve been following the events of the past week.   Here are my thoughts about what’s been happening:

Bush and Cheney WON’T be at the convention because of Gustav, or so they say.  Let’s face it–Gustav may or may not be an issue depending upon if/where/when the hurricane hits.  I think Bush is trying to distance himself from McCain as much as possible…or is it McCain wants to distance himself from Bush and Cheney as much as possible electionwise, in order to not be cursed by the current administration’s legacy?

Has there ever been a national convention where the incumbent president hasn’t shown up?  Obviously, the Republicans are VERY scared…
