The Marines are not your personal butlers, Mr. President

Regardless of which side of the political fence you’re on, I think you’ll agree that the US Marines Corps is not the President’s personal butler service. It still irks me that President Obama showed so little respect for his Marine Corps guard.

Obama’s actions give new meaning to “call in the Marines”:

If the much older Ronald Reagan could hold his own umbrella, why can’t Barack Obama?

It’s about respect, Mr. President.
How about showing some respect for the US Marine Corps? They deserve it.

Boston Marathon bombing: possible suspect found in boat parked in driveway

suspects

He’s in custody now.

Bursts of gunfire erupted Friday evening as police surrounded a boat where the Boston Marathon bombing suspect was believed to be holed up, law enforcement sources said.

The dramatic turn of events began unfolding soon after police told residents they could leave their homes even though suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, 19, was still on the run despite a door-to-door search.

Just before 7 p.m., an unsettling barrage of gunfire was heard on Franklin St. in Watertown, Mass., and dozens of police and armored vehicles sped to the area.

Officials said a woman in the area reported seeing blood leading to a boat in her yard, and thermal imaging from helicopters had located someone in the vessel.

Bombing Suspect #1, Chechnyan: “I don’t have a single American friend, I don’t understand them.”

Tamerlan Tsarnaev, Dead Bombing Suspect: “I Don’t Have a Single American Friend”

Police have identified Tamerlan Tsarnaev, 26, as the “black hat” bombing suspect, killed during the manhunt that followed. Readers have pointed out that Johannes Hirn made Tsarnaev the subject of a photo essay, “Will Box for Passport,” taken before the boxer competed at National Golden Gloves competition in Salt Lake City. The captions give us a micro-profile of the suspect.

Tamerlan, who studies at Bunker Hill Community College in Boston and wants to become an engineer, took the semester off from school to train for the competition.

Tamerlan fled Chechnya with his family because of the conflict in the early 90s, and lived for years in Kazakhstan before getting to the United States as a refugee.

Originally from Chechnya, but living in the United States since five years, Tamerlan says: “I don’t have a single American friend, I don’t understand them.”

If he wins enough fights… Tamerlan says he could be selected for the US Olympic team and be naturalized American. Unless his native Chechnya becomes independent, Tamerlan says he would rather compete for the United States than for Russia.

Tamerlan says he doesn’t drink or smoke anymore: “God said no alcohol.” A muslim, he says: “There are no values anymore,” and worries that “people can’t control themselves.”

Boston Marathon Bombing: 1 Possible Suspect Killed, The Other is on the Run

***Update: 1 suspect shot, the other is on the run.

Federal agents swarmed Watertown after local police were involved in a car chase and shootout with the men identified Thursday by the FBI as Suspect 1 and Suspect 2. During the pursuit, officers could be heard on police radio traffic describing the men as having handguns, grenades and other explosives.

The Associated Press identified the surviving Boston bomb suspect as Dzhokhar A. Tsarnaev, 19, of Cambridge, Mass., and said that the suspects were brothers.

The mayhem began at approximately 10:20 p.m. Thursday when police said the bombing suspects robbed a 7-Eleven store in Cambridge. Minutes later, police said, the men shot and killed an MIT campus officer responding to the robbery call. The terror suspects then carjacked a Mercedes-Benz with the driver inside and fled, eventually letting driver go. They were then spotted in Watertown where they exchanged dozens of rounds of gunfire with patrol officers.

Boston Marathon bomber manhunt: One suspect dead, second on the run, police say

Dear gentle blog reader,

The FBI has released information about and photos of 2 possible suspects in the tragic Boston Marathon bombing. The FBI’s website also has a short video of the 2 possible suspects walking near finish line: FBI website.

Call (800) 225-5324 or visit bostonmarathontips.fbi.gov if you have a tip.

The duo — identified only as Suspect 1 and Suspect 2 — strolled one behind the other along a crowded Boylston St. sidewalk.

The suspected plotters showed no sign of impending malice as they walked mere paces apart, moving in lockstep behind spectators pressed against a nearby railing.

Suspect 1 wore sunglasses and a black hat, which appears to have a Bridgestone Golf logo. Suspect 2 wore a white hat turned backward. Both toted shrapnel-packed homemade bombs tucked inside their backpacks, officials said.
