Could Quebec’s student protests be a harbinger of things to come on the US side of the border?

Dear gentle blog reader,

For the nearly 3 months, university students in Quebec have protested their government’s proposed $1,625 tuition increase. The protests have turned into something far bigger as students are challenging the Establishment. Here’s a quote that sums up their viewpoint: ‘Those people are a greedy elite that only sees education as an investment in human capital and only sees a child as a future employee’.

I can’t help but notice how Obama is making a point of courting college-age kids in recent months. Maybe he’s doing it to get their votes or maybe he fears similar protests in the U.S.?
