Library security gates — just another infringement on civil liberties

Dear gentle blog reader,

Alas, my local public library is getting security gates. Such a shame. I don’t think most of my fellow library patrons are thieves. My library’s such a friendly little place and it’s been in business for more than 50 years without any noticeable incidents.

To me, security gates are just another intrusion on taxpayers’ civil liberties, namely, the right to enter and exit a library in peace. On the other hand, I guess I should be grateful my library hasn’t hired TSA to pat down patrons.

Here is the entrance as it is now — sans gates:
